Social Studies: Family Interview and Heritage Doll

Dear Parents,

The next big project in our class will be related to Social Studies.  Students took home directions yesterday (1/9) about conducting a family interview (due 1/30) and creating a heritage doll (due 2/13).  Copies of the directions, examples, and the interview questions are available on this site on the right hand side. While I will be teaching, guiding, and reminding students frequently about these assignments, I would very much appreciate your support helping your children plan, pace and accomplish these assignments.  Much like the character tube book report, these projects are expected to be completed over a length of time and show that time and care were taken.  Thank you for your time and help!

A Note from our Room Parent about the Holiday Party

Dear Parents,

Holiday Cheers!  Our class holiday party is just around the corner on December 21st from 11-12.  The kids will be exchanging books so please bring in a wrapped $5 and under book by December 17.  Please consider purchasing a book at the upcoming Silver Spur Book Fair.

Food and drinks have been generously provided by the PTA.  Please do not send in any food as we have students with allergies in our class.   Volunteers will needed for the party.  I will post a sign up on the class site.

As a reminder, per school policy, please do not bring younger siblings to the party.

Thank you!
Betty Abe

Character Tube Book Report assigned on 11/1!

Students took home an explanation of what they will need to do for their first book report as well as a paper for their summary.  Please check your child's binder for this information.  For your convenience, it is also posted under the heading "2nd Grade Book Reports" on this website, along with some FAQs. Please note that this book report should be completed at home over the next few weeks and is due on December 4th. Please help your child pace and plan as this is a new type of assignment for them!

Halloween Parade on Wednesday, 10/31 at 1:30!

Please come join us for our Silver Spur Halloween Parade! Students should bring costumes in bags from home to change into. Please remember no scary masks or costumes, and no weapon/large props. Students will be given time in the classroom to change right before the parade. Ms. Keeler (1st grade) and I have adjoining classrooms, so all boys from her class and my class will change in Room 6, and all girls from both classes will change in Room 11.  If you would like to come help your child into his/her costume, please come at 1:10. The parade will be out on the blacktop. You are welcome to sign out your child with me following the parade!

2nd Grade Holiday Play

We are excited to start practices for our 2nd grade holiday play tomorrow, 10/16! Students watched a previous year's video of the performance last week and listed their top 5 choices for parts. Each student was given a script today (10/15) and told which part to prepare for.

The play performance will be on Thursday, December 20th at 1:30 pm. There will also be a dress rehearsal on Wednesday, December 19th at 1:30 pm (anyone who can't come on the 20th are welcome to attend!). There will be lots of singing and holiday fun, so please mark it in your calendar!

More information about costumes/what students should wear to come!

Our first Marble Party!

Students have earned their first marble party!  These marbles were earned a handful at a time each time students were collectively working hard, showing good participation, showing focus or being on task. We voted and agreed that the special treat would be to wear pajamas and watch a movie for part of the day on Wednesday, October 17th. Students are welcome to come dressed in their pajamas but please make sure they still have appropriate footwear for PE.

Thank you!

Welcome to Room 6!

I am so excited to be your 2nd grade teacher! I hope that you have had a happy summer and are ready to enjoy your new school year. I look forward to meeting you all on Wednesday, September 22nd.  Please go ahead and hang your backpack up on a hook outside of Room 6 and meet me on the painted number 6 on the blacktop at the 8:30 am bell.
