Dear Parents,
Our theme this week is Fairy Tales! It is also Spirit Week. I apologize for the many documents you need to print this week, but I think the themed weeks are much more fun for the kids for working at home. If you need help with printing, let me know, and I can try to mail or drop off the documents to you. Please read the entire week.  I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day! Remember the bolded items are things I categorize as MUST DO and the non-bolded come next. However, I want to be very flexible as I understand many of you are working from home, and that this is a difficult situation in many ways, and however you tackle the work is up to you. PLease always go by the daily schedule as below, I sometimes make changes to the week as needed from the original weekly schedule.

Have a great week, and as always I appreciate your feedback and am here to answer questions during the week.

Zoom Call Cancelled and Rescheduled for Friday at 10am!

Dear Parents,

I hope you all enjoyed the nice weather and had a good relaxing weekend, no doubt catching up on housework and work!

This week I have had to cancel Monday's Zoom call as my daughter injured herself playing last week on Monday and it has not gotten better. We will be at the orthopedic doctor tomorrow. As you all know she is an avid dancer and this is a very stressful situation. We have been dealing with it all weekend and hope to have some answers tomorrow. This being said, I had not had time to completely finish our weekly schedule or math challenges. Monday's work is up and I will post the rest of the week tomorrow.

If you are wondering what to do with all of the past school work, please have your child choose one piece of math work and one piece of Language arts work for the week to save in a file. I will be doing very short assessments individually with students starting in mid May to see where they are at, in order to give parents direction on what things to work on during the summer. It is sometimes nice to look at the saved pieces of work to see progress. Most likely I will not be collecting them, but if we need to look at past work to acknowledge current progress it will be nice to have just in case.

Thank you so much for understanding my delay in getting out the work for the week.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Christensen

Assignment

Hello! I hope you all had a wonderful spring break. Please check your email from me, from Aeries help for the information on Zoom call this morning at 9:30.

Attached are the Weekly Schedule, a Math and Language Arts BINGO card, to add some fun and choice to the learning this week, an optional "homework" choice menu as well as two more challenging math choice boards (different levels) to extend learning if you think your child would enjoy more practice and difficulty THIS IS OPTIONAL. The homework and the math choice boards are optional activities to help you if you feel that your child would enjoy more structured learning. You can also save these activities in a file for summer enrichment.

This week we will be dividing up Zoom calls on Tuesday and Wednesday into two small groups. Your child has been assigned a group. I have assigned groups based on what I believe is best for their social development. We will not be with all of our friends on these calls so that we can focus in the best way that we can. The Monday call will be whole group however, and we can see all of our friends.

Please print the schedule in the landscape. You only need to print pages 1-3 unless you would like review of last weeks ideas for centers and counting collections. Don't forget to print the new April Calendar (multiple copies for every day this month) or you can put it in a sheet protector if you have one and use it more than once.

Another new thing this week will be the Second Step lesson, that you have seen in homework in the the past. They are allowing parents to log in and create an account at this time. https://cfccdn.blob.core.windows.net/static/pdf/lessons/grade-k/grade-k-lesson-12-families-support.pdf
You may have to cut and paste the address into your browser.

Lastly, please look at the Fun Friday assignment, you may want to start thinking about this and can do it little by little all week if you would like. Remember, my schedule is just a suggestion. The only things that are at a certain time will be the Zoom Calls. Please look at the Zoom Groups list to see the time for the small group that your child is in. The Monday Zoom is all together.

Fun Friday! Watch the Little Red Hen videos:
Discuss the books and the similarities and differences. Draw your favorite version of the story on a paper, or make a book telling the beginning, middle and end.
The Little Red Hen-story told through a song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtwQ8K29yE0
After watching the song... note: tell the kids how a story can be told through pictures, words, song or even a dance.

Make some Pizza, bread or "pretend bread, pizza" ... Retell the story while making your bread or playing!  See Emergency Bread (Red Hen) recipe below

Craft Today: If you have time, you can make a letter V picture for your letter book, and or a Xylophone for last week!

Don't forget about PE today! I have included some ideas from Coach Jeff and Crew!

Due:

Assignment

Handwriting without tears: Listen to the you tube song following the dance moves: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7nGY0iQFDU
Complete the attached c and o page *this is different from the orange book- sorry for the typo on my schedule. Important: The HWT does not follow the letter of the week curriculum. The letter of the week is designed for teaching pre-reading skills and HWT is designed for teaching writing in a developmentally appropriate order. I am going to ask that you keep the orange books for "extra homework" on your own time, partly because some of us were at different places in this book at school, depending on how confident we were with letter formation. Instead of the orange books, I will have you working on the attached worksheet. We will be reviewing letter formation in the HWT order. Every student in our class will benefit from this, as all need extra practice.

Math: watch subitizing Pirates video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1L8bIDeW5co
Jobs: Work in Math Seeds online for 20 minutes, via portal
Job: Addition and Subtraction Workbook : Super Sandwich page (I will also attach PDF in case you need to see which page)

Science: Watch What are Nests Made of? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpDCQBPPTFM
and What do Nests look like? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3amWpQxohA
Job: Go Outside and try to make your own nest (see schedule for ideas)

Happy Wednesday!
Today we do computer lab at school, so if you haven't yet try logging on to Reading Eggs today. If your child would prefer, you can try Starfall.com or ABCMouse (it is free trial for 30 days) or PBS kids. I would like for them to work on reading/language arts concepts this morning. 15 minutes is the limit, and you can always add more after you are finished with the days work.
You will watch my video Sticker Journal here is the link:
You will need a sticker for this activity. If you don't have a sticker, you can cut out a small sticker sized picture from a magazine, mailer ad and glue it on to the journal like a sticker.
Math:
Watch Jack Hartman Math count to 100  Workout : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TgLtF3PMOc
You will watch my 100 chart mathematician brain warm up lesson.Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-ZVNWgBVco
If you would like to follow along with a 100s chart print the PDF file below, there are two versions one that starts with 1 and the other starts with 0
Then you will find a collection to count. You do not need to record your collection in the workbook today. Just counting and recounting, if you feel like extending the activity, you may ask questions like the ones I suggested in my parent note attached to the schedule.

Lastly today you will log onto the Portal and go to the McGraw Hill red box, click on it and then click on Wonders. Click on books and open the Just Keep Trying book, read the story Don't Give Up. Draw a picture of something you keep trying to do!

Dear Families,
I am posting a weekly schedule. I have not posted all worksheets or videos yet, but hope to have them up by tomorrow or Wednesday for the entire week. Most of the worksheets will be from the workbooks that you all brought home. We will start to incorporate Zoom into our lessons weekly. This week we will try with Thursday, I will be a mystery reader! If that goes well, after Spring Break, I will try to do them on Monday mornings for the letter of the week and on Wednesdays for a story or math lesson. If you have signed up to be a mystery reader, starting next week you can read on Thursday at 1pm. Let me know if you would like to do this. We can reschedule the parents for this week and last week for future times. I am trying the weekly schedule this week to give you an overview of the week. Hopefully this will help with your schedule. If you have any questions regarding the schedule or lessons please don't hesitate to call me. Please read all pages of the schedule, parent letter and Math Games as it has other important information regarding Play and Math. I apologize for the loads of information, but once you read it, you will see it is all useful information for the weeks ahead. I did not record any you tube videos this weekend, as I ran out of time! Don't worry I know I am in high demand from the kids! I will record them this afternoon after our staff meeting! Give your kids a hug from me and remember to give tons of praise!
