I know she's excited to speak with all of be straight. I don't know if you have a PowerPoint if you do or don't have sleep on if you do I gave you shall right so you should be able to share but the floor is all yours thank you so much for joining us thank you good morning every hi hi I'm so excited to be here and share with you about my home country Bulgaria I lived there until I was nineteen years old and so Michael parents and grandparents are still there so I'm really fond of it so let me just ask him ice cream ice works okay you see my screen excellent so Bulgaria where is Bulgaria is a tiny tiny country in Europe so here is the map of the world there is a little red. There. It's in Europe and it's in the eastern part of the Europe basically the boundary between Europe and Asia Bulgaria is only 110 111000 square kilometers which is just a bit more than a quarter of California and only about 7.6 million people live in Bulgaria for residents of the city of Los Angeles has about four million so I would whole country is about just twice the city of Los Angeles and the metro area of Los Angeles has way more people than the tiny country with tiny people so just to give you a better idea about Spain and France and Italy and there call Gary shooting threat at it's in the eastern border of Europe next to the Black Sea which is this blue area here and so if you look at the right time or something but it's not worried about get it is you can see the countries that are next to Bulgaria go on the south we have turkey and Greece and on our West we have Macedonia and Serbia and on our North we have Romania the border between Bulgaria and Romania is actually didn't you hated by Big River of Daniel and our east border is basically the Black Sea and the capital of Bulgaria is a city called Sofia which has a little bit more than 1 million people so that beginning is three stripes white green and red and our coat of arms and also symbol about get it is the lion and so here you can see the the call the worms and what the inscription says is Unity makes strength Bulgaria is actually a really old country it was established in 681 80 so that means the dog area was established 1300 40 years ago and is one of the oldest countries in Europe and an interesting fact about Bulgaria is it actually the only country in Europe that never changed its name since its creation I didn't know that but I learned cuz I Was preparing this presentation Mariko Bulgarian history so bagaria is actually kind of at the intersection a melting pot because it said the boundary between Europe an Asia and it just had many conquerors and different people and the cultures come and implant said so but get its name comes from the who could people who arrived in the area around 280 and it's still not clear exactly where the burger people came from something it's like from the area where Mongolia are there other theories and when they arrived in Bulgaria they miss mixed with the local tribes which are more slaves and tration in the early history of Bulgaria Bulgaria was settled by the thracian and after that it was conquered by Al standard to create and was part of the Roman Empire and then is 681 the official state about Gary was created but even after the state of about getting was created there was still a lot of conquering and going back and forth freedom is not free. it's all about getting became part of the Byzantine Empire after it was created and later on it was part of the Turkish Ottoman Empire for about five centuries do you speak Bulgarian what is oops sorry I'm Abigail Ian is a Slavic language so it's like Russian or Serbian or polish or check and so just to give you an example you say if you want to stay a kid and a teacher in Bulgarian is a Cheeto so kind of different sounds than than than English and also we use a different alphabet we use the Cedar Lake off of it so here you can see an example of the letters in the alphabet is like the he got so angry that you can see Canada pronunciation in English so some of these things are very confusing because for example look at this letter this is the letter N in the city but it looks like the letter in English or our letter SC it looks like what we say but I do see in English God is a lot of confusion because this is the letter e but it actually looks like an inverse tan and so yeah very different alphabet so when you're bugging him cheat learned English is quite a switch I'll give you is this is a topographic graph so my daughter Natalia actually Point pointed out to me that most kids in elementary school not know what this map is trying to say and so you can just seeing green or kind of Diwali so areas and an orange are the mountains the darker the orange the darker the month so this map was just meant to show you an example of the fact that all this time he has a little bit of very different kinds of nature which has high I'm ten such as low mountains each other's bodies explain to Chester See and and big rivers and lakes so we are very famous for our Seaside because the sand beaches are very very nice with very fine sand and so we have a lot of what is from all over the world come to visit us but what less people know about is that our mountains are actually really beautiful as well and there's this really high mountains that have beautiful mountain lakes that are amazing to visit and also we have pretty good King on those high mountains in the winter I'll get Ian food what is about getting foot like again it's a hodgepodge from all the many influences of the different cultures have come through Bulgaria over the centuries one of the most distinctive think about Bulgarian foot is we love our salads we love eating salad with salad with every meal lunch and dinner and in particular in the middle I can see the favorite Bulgarian solid which is called shops got a lotta it's made of tomato cucumbers olives and feta cheese feta cheese is white crumbly cheese that we love Demi Lovato we also eat a lot buy me some here in the top corner but it's a it's like a pastry is made with this filled all that kind of cross sound like do and she has inside it and again more feta cheese and and he's a favorite of the whole region in fact all the countries around us have their own version of this act pastry Banneker also another thing that we we it's often is a lot of grilled meat so we have this to back to that what you see here in the middle which are made of ground meat a mixture of pork and beef and a super tasty and keep slapping so we have a lot of kind of baked hodgepodge stew kind of food another very very important thing to know about Bulgaria is Bulgarian live yogurt and they're very proud of it we eat yogurt with many things which are good by itself on the side of things with cook we date with make soup with it you can see here in the left corner we make soup with a cucumber and yogurt and in fact the bacteria that makes a yogurt Out of Milk the truth is all over the world is named after the bacteria that was used in the Bulgarian region to make yogurt place called locked away Bugatti but so go get in yogurt is not exactly like the yogurt that you would buy in the store here is a little bit more sour and less kind of cream and is very very tasty and very good for your stomach another very distinctive think about Bulgaria is the national dance or national folklore these are folk dances are usually dance to Bulgarian folk music and they involve linking hands with one another and making lines and they dancing together in the lines in a synchronous movement of difference you can see getting the picture this long line of people dancing together and we have a lot of folklore Festival where people perform different kind of folk dances and dance and dressing traditional costumes in fact I want to share with you a short clip of what about getting forgan looks like but before I go there I just want to show you the different types of folk dance Tire every region all the Bugattis tiny even within that tiny space there's a microcosm of little smaller culture so every small region has its own embroidery and colors and style off a phone call did they use as well as often they have their own dialect in meaning that they speak Bulgarian with a particular pronunciation or particular choice of words so here is an example of what about Jaden folk dance looks like and what do get in folk music sounds like let's see if this works so I hope that you were able to hear that so actually it's a lot of the beginning folk dances have pretty simple steps so with about 5 to 10 minutes one can show you actually called to follow and he can join in in fact when my daughter Natalia was abused and go get it with me and we went to a big celebration where people like I said you should dance as Folk dances when there's a vehicle she was able to quickly learn those steps and if you wouldn't person I could have come and demonstrate it to another thing that we love is Rouses in fact Bulgaria is one of the biggest producers capital is also in the world about getting turkey are basically the two biggest producers so we have a specific molecule called the cuz unlock Rose Body which has the perfect climate for growing roses and so there is just fields and Fields of afros of roses planted and collected every year to make rose oil and in fact the collection of roses is coming I did buy a big Festival where people go to collect their own Pathos in Pocatello singing There's a competition about the rose Queen at cetera making rose oil is actually really difficult one made of pure rose oil takes about 50 thousand petals that's about 1,500 rose flowers or seven to eight pounds of rose petals so small tiny little bottle this amazing smile. We're using our cosmetics Bulgarian folk music was actually a selected to be part of a the phonograph record that was placed on the Voyager space in 9777 the Voyager spacecraft were launched into space in order to travel Spotify far away from Earth into space in fact there now for the better way than the distance between sun and Pluto and they're getting just a phonograph record so that if aliens find this this spacecraft that would be able to hopefully to read them and learn about art and so there's two like sounds music images and one of the texts examples of music of Earth music that was selected to be on on this record was about getting folks. okay images of the beings in space Bulgaria is also known about its Asian treasures and drawings you can see in this picture some very very old gold artifacts that were discovered in a small town near the Black Sea are in Bulgaria and in fact after scientists studied them they discovered the that might be an example of the oldest process gold in the world to be discovered as of yet he's more 6000 and 500 years old and the treasure did we discovered which was a collection of different size has more than 3,000 gold artifacts so this is our golden object it's from that lived in that area during the copper age are they said more than 66000 years ago and there's a lot of other archaeological sites that have been found in Bulgaria can you find the treasures from different area Eros off of human culture in Sample this is a later. When humans were much better at crafting the gold into even more sophisticated object but it's still are you very old around Aunt 4 oz of 4000 BC so this is a tration treasure and you can see how sophisticated are the sculptures in the the gold work is here so it's really really beautiful I told you stretch or has traveled as a as a psychological exhibit around the world for people to see it there's also a lot of kind of building an architectural or wins as a side Bulgaria has been through many tires conquering it and building different things so you can see examples of different architecture my hometown of 12 days which is the second biggest city in Bulgaria has this amazing, it was built in the first century lady saw very long time ago but you still very well-preserved you can see the whole columns the statues the seating and actually can host between 5000 and 7000 Spectators and in fact it's not closed Museum you can actually go and visit it any day you like and in fact we called huge concerts there and performances and so on so you could be seeing like a modern concert in the middle of this Roman Amphitheater is pretty cool the Black Sea is also if you would ever visit Bulgaria or recommend to go and visit the Black Sea for the beaches for the little towns and Villages for the nature also we have a lot of beautiful mountains as I said hello. and a lot of hot springs that people enjoy so I think that's all for me I'm out of time and I hope that they picked your interest and you learn a little bit about Bulgaria and maybe you'll get to visit one day Easter that was just so beautiful Chloe and I'm not sure if you're still there if you are it's okay if you're not if you are come back there you are beautiful so third grade I know that you have business if anyone needs to sign out go right ahead I would love to ask the parents Chloe and Bistro a couple of questions but I'm recording so please don't worry about missing anything I especially third grade I know if you want to go to visit but Chloe and be sure if it's okay with you I'd like to ask you a couple questions. okay wonderful first of all I'm Blown Away by the presentation skills at the pictures and images in the formatting and a music and everything that you added into those presentation really helped our students I think to get an actual Feel For What It's Like in those countries so the first question I'm going to ask is to be struck you gave us so much information that I definitely didn't know before about Bulgaria how exactly famous for its beaches and its mountains in different different types of environments I'm curious what was the atmosphere where what was the setting like where you grew up so I said I I grew up in Plovdiv which is this city that has the Roman Amphitheater what kind of a middle-sized city maybe around 300,000 people it's a it's a beautiful outside the most beautiful city in Bulgaria but it's not only because I agree it's on the position on seven different heels and he has a lot of archaeology in it and like Roman and Greek sides and but also has really good seeing in terms of restaurant Townsend Lively events and yeah it is so small that even where do you live in a particular place of all of it very easily for me a long trip was 3 hours drive you know you like if you're going to the other side of the country for a family trip you better pack everything so yes oh that's great it's so wonderful to learn in and just be here about what it was like when you were growing up Chloe at end and by the way everyone I forgot to mention today we're discussing Europe Tuesday Thursday and Friday we're going to be looking at countries and different continents so this is the one day that we're discussing Europe now Chloe the interesting thing about England is that speak the same language and I know that people often think always speak the same language you all must know all the same words and all the same phrases but as you know and as many of us know sometimes you could speak with a person from a different country even if language is the singer not really know exactly what they're saying so I'm curious from you you find that there are a lot of dialect in England the way there are a lot of dialect in the United States like you can go to the South and here language spoken one way and then the Midwest is different and then cornea so do you find are a lot of dialect and within those dialects words that you might not even know and sometimes as you go cuz I didn't like the type of Cornwallis I don't know why they're all different words I'm a different kinds of praise I'm so sometimes it sometimes it can be it can be a little bit challenging yes to be you see that's enough yes, I can figure it out exactly just like his right and Chloe also in the if you were to ask me all what are other very common languages spoken in the United States out of course a Spanish and Japanese and Mandarin in Korean in England what would you say our common language is is outside of English question and do in the United Kingdom and right now that has well over the last few decades has been a real effort to revive the Welsh language well do in Wales school children also some Welsh and that that's what while she's at phi's language and then in Scotland as wild can Galaxy Spokane and the northern islands as well and in times of the rest of England I would say that that all huge act when they're all huge communities of people from other countries like South Asian countries where English will be second language spoken in the household so wherever you go to school in England you're going to be friends with kids to whom English is a second language yeah it's a it's a it's a really nice mix my it's very nice yeah mix of cultures in the school's right now and Chloe your accent to way cooler than my New York one so it's just wonderful to have you here buy Silver Star Elementary School can we get just a huge huge round of applause for our two presenters today and for Miss Westman for putting all this together we will be seeing you again tomorrow morning and look forward to sharing more knowledge and formation and just wonderful Customs from around the world thank you everybody
