Distant Learning Weeks 1-2 (March 13-27 2020)

We took a lot of notes as we learned about Dr. Seuss in class.
You are to turn your research notes into an informational writing piece.
Please type your essay on the portal and send to me.

If you cannot find your notes we took, you can visit Dr. Seuss site here: https://www.seussinspringfield.org/kids-games/kid-friendly-bio
Monday: Frindle- we left off on Ch. 4. Nick was busy getting a report ready for Mrs. Granger. He decided giving the report could be fun. What is your prediction regarding Nick's report?
Read Ch. 5 of Frindle, The Report
Make a Word document titled "Frindle Notes" on your portal. Add your previous chapter notes along with Ch. 5 on your document. You can still divide your notes under yes or no sections for our essay question; "Is Nick Allen a Troublemaker?"
Tuesday: Frindle Ch. 6-7, The Big Idea and Word Wars. Add your notes to your Word document. Now you know how we got the title to our story :) Is Nick brave for standing up to Mrs. Granger? Is he respectful?
Wednesday: Frindle Ch. 8-9, Mightier than the Sword and Chess. It is said that the Pen is mightier than the sword. Think about this, what do you think this phrase means? Chess is a metaphor for what is happening in the story. How do you visualize this chess match? Add your notes for your future essay to your Word document.
Thursday: Frindle Ch. 10-11, Freedom of the Press and Extra! Extra! Read all about It!. A free and fair press is important for a free society to stay informed. In this chapter, a reporter begins to research the happenings at Lincoln Elementary. Before the days of TV and internet, news was published on paper only and ready early in the morning. What if important news happened that day? Publishers would print an "Extra" edition to the day's news. Maybe a kid your age would stand on the city street calling out, extra, extra, read all about it, in order to sell the latest printed news.  Our story is developing the problem so far. What notes will you add to your Word document?
Friday: Frindle Ch 12, Airwaves. Wow, how would it feel to be Nick? Pay attention to the character Bud Lawrence. Add to your notes.
Next week would be spring break. If you prefer to finish Frindle and not take a week off, I understand. The story is getting real good and some twists to the story lie ahead so go for it! Just take notes for your final essay.
