Introducing the Funk triplets...Mavis, Toby, and Miggie!

Mixtures and Solutions Video
Watch this short video to further build on your understanding of
mixtures and solutions.
Yes! It looks like one you watched the other day...but it's different!!

Element, Molecule, Compound Foldable
Today you will watch a video (below) where I teach you about how elements, molecules, and compounds
are connected to each other.
Each element on the Periodic Table can be combined with other elements to make molecules.

Compounds are what are formed by molecules.

Before watching the video, print out the following pages below. If you are unable to print them, reproduce the chart in your science journal, draw the pictures on the chart, and then write the paragraph in your journal.
We will use the essay about elements, molecules, and compounds tomorrow so keep it handy!
Cut out the pieces on p. 2 first...
* Cut out the elements, molecules, compounds rectangle along the dotted line.
* Cut out the sideways paragraph lines with the picture of the big pencil.
* Cut out the 9 smaller pieces at the bottom of the page - don't lose them!

Now, cue up the video below.
Have the papers you just cut out, your science journal, and pencil with you.
We will complete the foldable together in the video.

OK...hit "play"!!
Now that you are done watching the video...
1) Make sure you have glued all the small pieces from the bottom of the sheet into the appropriate section of your chart; element, molecule, or compound. Where do they seem to match up best?
2) Write about the difference between a molecule and a compound on the paragraph writing part of the worksheet. There is enough information to easily fill all the lines if you follow the directions.
2) Glue it into your science journal onto the next empty page. Three-columned chart at the top of the page and the paragraph at the bottom of the page.

I know in the video I said to annotate the essay. Actually, we will go ahead and do that as the first assignment tomorrow.

What I would like you to do now, is watch this last video.
She will be bringing together several things we have talked about this week;
elements, compounds and MIXTURES.
How do those three things relate?
Find out by watching. Go ahead and hit "play".
